Simple Things' received Award for the Best Small Work

Trees are my favourite subject and I was excited to try painting them as a miniature instead of my usual full sheet paintings. The challenge of making a painting from ‘simple things’ rather than always searching for a special grandiose something, is very fulfilling.

A limited palette and using arches rough paper helped for sure. I framed using a wide matt of 80 mm which gives the feeling of taking you into the miniature and gives the trees a significance in their own right.
